This Week from the Haven
Hello there Reader!
Last Friday, our family decided to mix things up for Friday Family Fun Night—and we ended up at Top Golf. 🎉
Now, you might think Top Golf is just for serious golfers, but let me tell you… we discovered something way more fun! Instead of the regular aim-for-the-furthest-target game, we played their Sonic and Angry Birds challenges. The kids were all in—cheering, laughing, and totally engaged. And here’s why:
Rather than just hitting balls into distant targets (which isn’t exactly exciting for an 8-year-old), these games turned the whole thing into a fun, interactive screen experience. You scored points based on what you hit on the screen, not just how far the ball went. Everyone had a blast—and everyone felt like they could win. 🙌🏽

And that got us thinking…
What if we treated communication in our relationships the same way?
So often, we aim for the “furthest target” in our conversations—maybe it’s resolution, agreement, or simply being heard. But sometimes, that approach just doesn’t work for our partner. Like golf, we may need to switch up the game.
Ask yourself: What’s my goal in this conversation?
Do I want understanding? Unity? Action? Encouragement?
When we begin with the end in mind, and tailor our approach to meet our partner where they are, the whole experience becomes more interactive—and way more effective.
That’s how Jesus communicated, too. He spoke in stories, parables, and everyday language that resonated with fishermen, farmers, and families. He didn’t complicate the message—He customized it. And that’s how He reached hearts. 💛
So be encouraged today: you’re not failing at communication—you’re learning.
And the more intentional you become, the more connected you’ll feel.
