This week almost broke me.
What should have been a 30-minute task, uploading our new Home to Haven podcast episode, turned into a 12-hour marathon of frustration. Every time I tried exporting the video to YouTube, the editing program crashed. Again and again. I searched help forums. I tried different fixes. Nothing worked.
Finally, after lots of trial and error (and a few deep sighs), I stopped and prayed. Then, an idea came: export the video in smaller chunks. Four mini-videos later, I combined them into one, and at last—the file was ready to upload.
As I finally crawled into bed, God reminded me of two things:
1. Communication works the same way.
Too often, we try to tackle big conversations in one giant bite. But when something isn’t clear, resolution doesn’t come. That’s why topics resurface again and again—not because someone “won’t let it go,” but because understanding hasn’t been reached. The solution? Break it down into smaller, digestible chunks until both hearts are heard.
2. We need the Helper.
Twelve hours of frustration could have been avoided had I prayed first. The Holy Spirit is our Helper—always ready to guide us when we invite Him in. Many couples we meet with are trying everything, only to experience no real momentum. Their intention is great, but the execution is failing.
That’s why our Oakhaven framework always starts here: Pray It. Plan It. Pursue It. Without prayer, even our best plans stumble. But with God’s help, your marriage will thrive.
